Dined early after an afternoon at the Globe. Meal measured up to our expectations. My poussin and my daughter's steak were excellent, as was the house red wine. However, I was surprised to be charged extra for potatoes, a British staple, and usually included in the meal price.

Bringing a little Italian sunshine to Butlers Wharf, the robust flavours and relaxed setting make Cantina del Ponte a lively dining destination if you're looking for a riverside meal in London at a reasonable price. Settle down with the family in the homely interior to watch pizza baking in the restaurant's open wood-fired oven, or enjoy a glass of Prosecco with friends on the canopied terrace overlooking Tower Bridge. With such a dynamic atmosphere, Cantina del Ponte is also the perfect setting for an informal gathering or canapé reception. Simple, regional and authentic, the Italian fare on offer includes homemade pasta, delicious seafood and slow cooked meat dishes, all accompanied by an extensive Italian wine list of rich reds and light whites. Popular dishes have included Seafood Linguine, Grilled Rib of Beef on the Bone, and Aubergine and Sundried Tomato Ravioli. Relying on seasonal produce, Cantina del Ponte's menu frequently changes throughout the year, meaning that every visit presents an opportunity to try something new.

I had been to Cantina del Ponte once before and had a nice experience. This second time back with some friends ended up being one of the worst times/meals here. The whold dinner took over 3 hours and food was horrible. would not go back.

                          Comments about this restaurant :

We booked an offer at Cantina del Ponte and it was really good value for money. My black rice was a little on the al dente side though (but it was the first time I'd ever had this dish, so maybe it's meant to be that way!).

The restaurant setting is excellent - right on the Thames with great views of Tower Bridge. It was a bit too cold to eat outside, but in the summer it would be great to eat on the terrace and enjoy the view.
