Beautiful venue, excellent food
I was vegetarian and they managed to change the dishes appropriate for me. We celebrated my friends birthday and it was really fun. Thank you!

More about Afternoon Tea at Sanderson

A chic pop-up dining hotspot in London, Sanderson showcases eclectic international indulgences in a year-round summery setting. At the luxurious 5-star Sanderson Hotel, the buzzing Long Bar and the exquisite courtyard garden bar serve up fresh, exotic cocktails whilst the Mad Hatter's Tea Party at Sanderson offers a unique twist on the classic afternoon tea.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland, menus are hidden inside vintage bookcases, kings and queens adorn teapots, and speciality sandwiches are served on plates decorated with birdcages, carousels and ticking clocks. Savoury treats include the goats’ cheese croquet monsieur, and white crab eclairs.

Completing the experience, sinful scones are joined by a red velvet ladybird cake and coffee-flavoured pocket-watch macarons. . The star attraction, however, is the collection of Sanderson-exclusive teas, featuring China Black Tea infused with hints of blackcurrant, vanilla, caramel, citrus, bergamot, blue cornflowers and blue mallow flowers.

Diverse flavours and eclectic recipes make Sanderson in Fitzrovia a favourite in London’s fashionable West End. Goodge Street Tube Station is a 6-minute walk away.

I booked the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea for a group of female friends to celebrate a 50th Birthday.
We were slightly disappointed as we expected more of an Alice in Wonderland theme, eg characters and music. We noticed that a couple has taken their little girl, dressed as Alice, but apart from the table decorations and food, there was very little feeling of being in wonderland.

All of the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious, however I do not eat fish and was not given the opportunity to ask the waitress if I could swap the fish dishes for something else. We would have liked more of the savoury food. At £48 per person we expected to be full but ended up at McDonalds later on in the evening!

The restaurant staff were aware that we were celebrating a birthday but we did not have any special surprise for our friend. Only after I inquired, when paying the bill, did the waitress bring our friend a small piece of cake and a candle.

We felt that the £41 service charge was exceptionally high.

On a positive note, the hotel is beautifully designed and staff are on hand to help. We had a lovely afternoon.

We visited the Sanderson's for a birthday celebration and the experience was delightful to say the least from start to finish .
The staff are very helpful and service second to none .
The intricate design of the cakes just adds to the experience , loved the strawberry and cream marshmallows teamed with the Cheshire Cat tea which I believe is an orange marmalade and chocolate infusion .
A beautiful setting paired together with quirky food and complimented by great service - a great way to spend an afternoon!
