I booked this as a surprise for my grandmothers 95th birthday, I chose this hotel because she used to work at Sanderson's back in the 1970/80's when it was the wallpaper/fabric company head office, a trip down memory lane. The service was very good, the staff were polite and made you feel welcome. The Mad Hatters tea party theme is fun, we were served the house cocktail to start which was lovely, the savoury selection and the scones were good, I found the cakes/desert selection a bit too sweet for my tastes but others in our party enjoyed them. A nice surprise at end we were served a little pot of ice cream each and my grandmother was presented with a cake and candle on a tray that said Happy birthday with her name written in icing, a nice finishing touch. It was expensive but as a one off special treat we felt it was worth it. Thank you.

The theme was not obvious. The experience average. I have been for better afternoon teas.

I have eaten many afternoon teas, including Mr Selfridge which is wonderful, but the afternoon mad hatters at the the Sanderson, far out reached my expectations. The unique approach is amazing and attention to detail just perfect. The staff lovely, pleasant and attentive. The surroundings is beautiful. I would visit again in s heartbeat.

We did enjoy the experience we had a little trouble hearing our waitress as spoke very quiet. The tea was usual in good sort of way. A good atmosphere. Savoury dishes we should of explained that my husband and I don't eat fish that was our fault . The lime bread with cream cheese and cucumber was very good. Cake selection brilliant. It's was a treat for my daughter as she is getting married soon in six weeks. They did a lovely slate board with congratulations writing in white chocolate and a cake. A really nice touch. The service charge I was shocked how much we had to pay 15 percent. That added £35.55 ton the bill.

Very nice setting and the choice of tea was good. I'd recommend the 'mad hatter'. Lovely selection of sandwiches and nice to have the smoked salmon scotch egg as a change. Also nice to be offered more sandwiches. The scones were lovely as were the mini cakes and sweet treats. The mango 'drink me' was very tasty. We also really enjoyed the little ice-cream with chocolate soil and honeycomb. We got a Sanderson cocktail included which wasn't particularly to my taste, but I'm not a great alcohol drinker and maybe that was the reason. The only downfall for me was that I had booked for my husbands birthday and our waitress asked if we were there for a special occasion to which we told her. Other people in the restaurant were served a special piece of cake with a birthday message but my husband didn't get one. Although you don't go with something extra in mind it's a little disappointing that everyone wasn't treated the same.
