Taberna Etrusca has been serving the finest Italian cuisine in the City of London since 1967. Offering an authentic trattoria setting, there is a Mediterranean-style courtyard and private dining options.

Tastecard warning.

I tend not to rush to review restaurants on websites, both good or bad, but in this instance, I feel it's important - if you are an establishment signing up to the Tastecard scheme, do not then treat customers who book a table using the card like second-class citizens. It's quite something when you arrive at 19:25, are seated and have ordered starters and wine by 19:33, only to witness a party arrive at 19:45 and have their starters arrive at 20:05 whilst you're still awaiting your rumoured starters. I say it's quite something; in actual fact, it is appalling.

I shan't complain overly about the food; my starter was all right, but quite why it took 45 minutes will forever remain a mystery. Particularly since it was soup. My main course was once again perfunctory; a tasteless ragu, but decent cuts of steak.

The wine was not bad, but once our party had finished the bottle - before the starters had arrived, not owing to any guzzling on our part but the interminable soup-making process - we were not asked if we would have cared for another.

All in all, I left feeling ostracised for having the temerity to try and save some money by using a Tastecard. I think the Tastecard scheme is great, and plenty of restaurants do not look down upon you for using one with them - this place undoubtedly does. It begs the question - why agree to sign up to the scheme?

I do not expect I shall be returning here.

A relaxed dinner with friends

Dined with a couple of friends at 7 o'clock in the mid-week. The restaurant was busy but service was quick, attentive and friendly. Our meals were very good; interesting Italian food well cooked and well presented.

A great evening meal in the sunny courtyard, which remained cool and comfortable. Service was great but thats because it was quiet as we were eating early. Food was fantastic and the portions were very good. The choice of good wine is great. Will return for sure.
