With imagination and creative flair, Arbutus restaurant London serves staunchly seasonal dishes alongside plats du jour. Whilst ever-changing, the Arbutus menu often features favourites such as the Cornish mullet with soft herb risotto, saddle of rabbit with caramelised endive and the slow cooked Scottish beef with roast salsify. We read about this restaurant in the New York Times and decided to give it a try. It was a very nice experience and the food was great. Our waitress could have been friendlier but maybe she was having a bad day. All in all it was a very nice dinner.

Faultless pre-theatre menu

Arbutus pre-theatre menu was recently recommended by friends. I have since been twice, once with my husband, teenage son and his girlfriend; they all loved it, and once with a friend who was equally enthusiastic. The pre-theatre menu is fantastic value and, although the menu is small, every course was delicious. The service was charming; the room was stylish; the diners a nice mix of ages and types. Smart enough to feel special but informal enough to be relaxing. The best pre-theatre food I have had. Hard to fault.

Very Disappointing. We chose Arbutus specifically for its attractive pre-theatre menu but this was withdrawn without notification. The food we had did not live up to the restaurant's reputation; tasteless dressing, bland soup, stringy steak and tired fish. It was presumably the chef's night off.

New Years Eve a Bit Of A let Down

We dined here last year and enjoyed it so much we thought we would visit again to celebrate New Year. We arrived early and our table wasn't ready which was no problem we were however ushered to the cheese section of the bar area but no one offered us bar service. Again no big problem as our table was available pretty quickly. Service was slow but then it was New Years Eve and who wants to be rushed. The tables are rather close together so it is intimate but with other quests not in a romantic way and as it was very busy it was pretty noisy.
The most disappointing thing though was the food, a real let down. I had the cod and chicken. A nice bit of cod but only one chicken wing. Both were cold when served and the cabbage couldn't be cut with the knife supplied. The shared potatoes were very nice. My partner had beef however the cut was not the best and as requested medium was pretty much served rare. We had to ask 4 times for our water to be topped up before this was done. Pudding was lovely as was the wine which was very reasonable. Overall reallydisapointing in view of our first visit. Were our expectations too high, I don't think so. If the food had been good the rest wouldn't have mattered. I guess we'll be trying a new restaurant on our next trip to London.
