More about The River Café

Serving artisanal Italian delicacies, The River Café enjoys its legacy as one of London’s most sought-after dining spots. Boasting a long-held Michelin star, the tranquil, leafy surroundings are offset by a bustling open kitchen.

Showcasing crisp presentation and moving with the seasons, The River Café menu changes twice daily for optimum freshness. Homemade pasta and succulent antipasti make for wonderfully natural flavours at The River Café, whilst dishes finished in the impressive wood-fired oven include roasted turbot, or slow-cooked veal with saffron risotto. A rich chocolate nemesis heads a decadent dessert list.

A library of vintage wines at The River Café Hammersmith compiles a meticulously sourced stock. The bar also serves up refreshing blends, like prosecco with fresh blood orange.

Offsetting its warehouse-style setting with expanses of glass, whitewashed walls and bold strokes of aquamarine, The River Café London evokes a fresh and breezy ambience. The River Café sits on the banks of the River Thames.

Our arrival at reception was very friendly and we were pleased to be offered at table on the veranda.However, we had no parasol so we got a bit hot in the sun and a few drops of rain fell while we were eating. The service was efficient with a variety of waiters seeing to our needs. We were pleased with the dishes we ordered, they were beautifully cooked and presented.
We had been looking forward to visiting the River Café for long time but the experience did not meet our expectations because;
Although I had contacted them in advance about my husband's coeliac condition there was no gluten free bread for him to eat while I eat normal bread.
Neither was he offered any carbohydrate to accompany his main dish.
We thought that £12.50 for an average glass of rose wine and £9 for a bellini (prosseco and peach) was expensive.
An optional gratuity of 12.5% added to the bill was OTT
And a minor but noticeable chip in the milk jug.

We enjoyed the meal but would think twice about spending nearly £180 on lunch there again.

The food was great, but from the moment you enter the front door to the time you leave you feel that you have been sucked into a large money making machine, designed to extract as much money out of you in the shortest time possible. Any attempt to make you feel like a valued customer was purely superficial.
