The food, service and wine were all excellent. The place has a very good atmosphere and is warm and cosy. The manager was particularly good and helpful, he suggested wines to finish our meal.

I had a glass of white port, which I think was rather tired, he replaced it without question.

The sausage and mash was really delicious, a great deal at £12.95 including a glass of wine. The fish and chips were also excellent.

I would give the evening 5 out of 5 and would highly recommend it.

We ate early evening on a Monday night, so the restaurant was quiet on our arrival, but it got busy later on. Service was excellent, and food was also good, as was the wine, which we very much enjoyed. I had a sirloin teak and my husband had a crab and prawn pasta dish, both were enjoyable. A little disappointed with the dessert which was a trio selection, but on the whole we had a very nice evening, and would go back when visiting the area.

If you are hoping for a bright and airy experience, our table at the back of the restaurant might not be what you're seeking. However, our low lit table for 10 was perfectly catered for by some genuinely thoughtful staff, and the wine, food and staff were all top notch.

We didn't want to mess around so ordered a few bottles of the house wine straight away, which were well above average quality.

The menu is also straight forward. Sausage and mash seemed to be a winner on our table, and for those who had the option, upgrading to triple cooked chips was a no brainier. Everything was delicious.

Lastly there service was spot on. Staff were kind, attentive and happy to get involved.

Overall we had a fantastic time, enough to be bothered to leave this glowing review. Big thumps up!

Great welcome, quiet table just as requested, charming staff. Food was well cooked and presented. Superior wine bar menu, with good fresh ingredients, absolutely delicious puds! And of course wonderful wine choice crisp manzanilla to start and a lush, chocolatey Sangiovese...what more could be wished for! Thankyou.

Excellent service - very attentive, making sure we were okay in a friendly and non- pushy way which was refreshing. Great menu - lots of variety. Well prepared & great quality food.

We had a very enjoyable time.
Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was very good, and my niece particularly enjoyed her fish and chips. The wine as ever is excellent.
I used to visit Davys every week, for years, about 25 years ago. I love that the interior is much the same, but the food has drastically changed, and improved. The choice of wine is even better, and that you now do beers.

Booking was overlooked despite being made a month and a half earlier and numerous email communications about the menu, deposit etc. We were given a table by the bar as a last resort, surrounded by noisy drinkers, which somewhat spoiled the experience.
Food was ok, but various a la carte items not available and waiter did not know this in advance of us ordering. Furthermore, we had to ask for various things to be served, such as bread with a pate starter - bizarre!
I have dined here a few times in the past and always enjoyed the experience, but this particular evening was a real disappointment.
