Excellent Food, but Service not great

We dined here on a Tuesday evening with another couple. The atmosphere was elegant but not stuffy. The food was outstanding.There seemed to be plenty of waitstaff, but the service lacked. We had ordered 2 bottles of wine and we consistently had to summon a waiter's attention in order to get our glass filled. DInner was [$] for 4 of us, and at that price, I would have expected them to be a little more on top of things.

I would recommend this place for lunch, howver just a couple of points The menu was limited and the portions were smal and check your bill as mine was incorrect.

My dinner date at Apsley's on New Years Day was a wonderful experience. As we entered the reception area of the Lanesborough Hotel the enormous Christmas Tree was the first thing that caught my eye. It looked like it had been dressed by Father Christmas himself. It was the most beautiful tree I have seen for many years. The staff at the hotel reception were very welcoming and friendly as we had not been there before. They led us to the restaurant reception were we were met by restaurant staff who again were extremely nice. We were seated at a lovely table but looking around the restaurant it would not have mattered where we would had been seated. The service was so attentive but not overbearing. I never noticed the waiting on staff until something was required and they just appeared without us having to ask. We decided to go for the seven course taster but we chose our own wine. Each course that came was explained and each course was exquisite. The combination of textures and flavours left our mouths wanting more. If you appreciate the art of food and extremely good service then you have to visit this wonderful restaurant.

We dined on Wednesday 7th December, the staff went out of their way to be helpful, we arrived at 8.15 and had a drink in the Library bar first. (Drinks very expensive [$] for 1 small glass of wine and a water) our party was late so did not sit down until 8.50pm - food was very nice although i felt as though we literally tasted the tasting menu and hadn't really eaten a meal, but we had to go with this option as we were a table of 8. The only fault with the service I would say at a push is that they did not notice when the wine glasses were empty and we had to asked to be refilled. On the whole a very lovely evening and the staff in the restaurant went out of their way to accommodate. The cloakroom attendants early on were somewhat disinterested and rude.
