We went for dinner and used the 2 courses for [$] voucher. Service was quick and pleasant, despite restaurant being quite busy. Food was excellent and despite being a chain, tasted very home-made. Cheerful and courteous greeting and farewell. Will definitely come again!!

More about Café Rouge - Berkhamsted

In a traditional white building, Café Rouge Berkhamsted serves a delightful selection of French dishes. Authentic and quaint inside, Café Rouge has an al fresco dining area in their private garden.

As part of the nationwide chain of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Set on Berkhamsted’s High Street, Cafe Rouge is within a 10-minute walk of Berkhamsted Train Station.

A late lunch for a family gathering worked really well for us. The service was quick and although the dining room was noisy and busy when we arrived it quickly became quieter and more relaxed. It was stuffy but we opened windows. The menu offered great variety and something for everyone.

Have eaten here so many times and it has always been good. However, yesterday the service was awful. We were shown to our seat and then none of the waiting staff came to us for 20 minutes. In the end we got up and left. Maybe an isolated incident, but the staff were not busy so seems they have gone downhill!

We dined at 8.30 p.m. The staff were pleasant, as always. Two members of the party asked for rare lamb and steak. Neither were rare. We did complain at the time, but ate what we had on our plates. Too late to have re-cooked, as others were waiting to eat.
