Excellent location from Blackheath direct to Charing Cross and a short stroll to Exeter Street, looks from the outside quite insignificant but once inside it buzzes, went with my grandson and his partner so it suits all ages, service super, food great an extended wine list and a great choice of cocktails, arrived home very happy.

The restaurant is located in what looks like an alley and if it wasn't for the door awning you wouldn't know it was there. the dim lit atmosphere and decorations is quite nice so had high hopes for the star deal. the cocktail called a lemon drop came out and found it very sharp like they just poured a bottle of jif lemon juice into this small glass and wrapped sugar round the lip. so we order a couple of cocktails of the main menu which tasted great but for what you pay I've had lot more cocktail in other places for that price.
We ordered the pulled chicken starter which when it came we thought where is the rest. it tasted great though so maybe the presentation could be netter like a sharing plate? The burger and fries was excellent and presentation was good. For dessert my companion ordered the brownie which was nice and moist. I ordered the peanut butter ice cream and jelly waffle which was what I was looking to the most. Unfortunately it was a real let down and ruined the meal for me. I couldn't tell from the dim lighting if it was burnt but it was definitely over cooked. in fact it just tasted like jam on toast. the ice cream was nice but didn't do much to curb my disappointment. Other peoples meals around us seemed quite nice so maybe it was just the deal but I doubt I will return to this restaurant.

A lovely way to spend our wedding anniversary! Lovely restaurant with good food and wine, a great atmosphere and friendly staff. A glass of bubbly on arrival was a nice touch too, since we explained that it was our anniversary and that we had dated at Joe Allen over 25 years ago! They had a pianist playing will we dined - she was very good - perfect music. Overall, just as good, if not better than the last time we were there. We will go back again soon and will recommend to friends.

Service was dreadful, terrible experience. We booked the star deal including three courses and a cocktail for £24. Sat down at 7:15 and after receiving a ridiculously small portion of a starter of croquettes, then waited an hour for our main courses. We told the staff we needed to leave by 9 to attend a show and were forced to skip dessert due to lack of time. The response of management? Waive the cost of a gin and tonic and a diet coke!!!! We ended up paying £16 more than the advertised prices on the standard menu. Really disappointing, I will not be visiting again. A real shame as I have previously enjoyed dining here.

Very nice food and good service too. We booked for the set menu with three choices of starter, three of mains and two desserts, wIth the cocktail on arrival. We were pleased the booking worked out so well! The starters of Waldorf salad and pulled chicken croquettes were nice and burgers for main course were amazing, so tasty. On some menus, the picture of the food is not always matched by what is served up, but Joe Allen was a clear exception! As good as promised. The desserts of chocolate brownie and waffle with peanut butter ice cream finished things of nicely.
