Nice location - central but tucked away from main streets. Excellent food with very generous portion sizes and service very good. Also a piano being played live which was lovely.

A lovely way to spend our wedding anniversary! Lovely restaurant with good food and wine, a great atmosphere and friendly staff. A glass of bubbly on arrival was a nice touch too, since we explained that it was our anniversary and that we had dated at Joe Allen over 25 years ago! They had a pianist playing will we dined - she was very good - perfect music. Overall, just as good, if not better than the last time we were there. We will go back again soon and will recommend to friends.

Great food and ambience, even on a Monday lunchtime. Outstanding service.

Service was dreadful, terrible experience. We booked the star deal including three courses and a cocktail for £24. Sat down at 7:15 and after receiving a ridiculously small portion of a starter of croquettes, then waited an hour for our main courses. We told the staff we needed to leave by 9 to attend a show and were forced to skip dessert due to lack of time. The response of management? Waive the cost of a gin and tonic and a diet coke!!!! We ended up paying £16 more than the advertised prices on the standard menu. Really disappointing, I will not be visiting again. A real shame as I have previously enjoyed dining here.

Very nice food and good service too. We booked for the set menu with three choices of starter, three of mains and two desserts, wIth the cocktail on arrival. We were pleased the booking worked out so well! The starters of Waldorf salad and pulled chicken croquettes were nice and burgers for main course were amazing, so tasty. On some menus, the picture of the food is not always matched by what is served up, but Joe Allen was a clear exception! As good as promised. The desserts of chocolate brownie and waffle with peanut butter ice cream finished things of nicely.

very slick we arrived early but were given a table and a very good service

Great atmosphere, the piano player made this even better! Service was quite slow but sometimes that is better than a restaurant trying to rush you out of the door, just make sure you aren't on a tight time restraint. Good was great and filling, we went for the star menu for £25 which included a delicious lemon cocktail.

As always the quality of food, atmosphere and professionalism of the staff ensure a wonderful dining experience. No matter how busy they are the staff are always attentive. For some of our friends- we were a table of 8 - this was the first Jo Allen's experience for them and i'm sure it won't be the last.

Outstanding experience. Having my booking checked was reassuring. The table was ready and immaculate. The staff were brilliant, service was perfect. Not rushed but never left waiting. The menu is typically joe Allen, how you would expect an American restaurant to be, bustling, nicely noisy, and comfortable. Not too expensive but worth every penny. A real favourite.
