Nestled in a converted orchid warehouse, Orso – Covent Garden presents a chic, bistro-style retreat. With sleek wood furnishings and pale terracotta walls, the dining room evokes the charm of 1950’s Milan.

With a long established reputation for superb Italian cuisine in Covent Garden, the Orso menu offers lovingly-crafted, traditional cuisine, whilst incorporating an exciting twist. Quality, regionally-sourced ingredients are used to create tempting dishes, like roast Tuscan sausage with braised black cabbage, or fresh penne pasta with wilted spinach and gorgonzola.

Not What I was Expecting.

I was really disappointed with my visit to the Orso restaurant in Covent Garden on Saturday. When I think of Italian restaurants I think of beautiful authentic decor with ambient Italian Music being played whilst you dine. This was supposed to be one of the highlights of my visit; unfortunately this was not the case. On arrival to the restaurant I was asked if I would like a drink whilst I was waiting. this was the only drink that I was offered all evening and there was no suggestion of a wine list at all. Throughout the evening I had one warm bottle of Peroni and one luk warm glass of water. Again, my impression and expectations of Italian food is that there is a vast variety of choice with lots of Traditional Italian choices. Again this was a disappointment. None of the usual well-loved Italian dishes where to offer. I appreciate that not everyone wants to experience the same food every time that they go out, however the choice was weak and not very exciting. Once my food arrived I was slightly more optimistic, however I found that others in my party felt that their food was not hot enough, however I will say that I enjoyed my main.Finally on to the desert which for me was divine, a panacotta with plume sauce. unfortunately I cannot say that I thought this was value for money as a member of my party paid [$] for 3 scoops of ice-cream.The cost of the meal in my eyes was unacceptable for what we ate. Nearly £200 for 6 people and like I said this was with 1 round of drinks. The final insult was the [$] service charge that was added onto of our bill, and was added in such a way that it could not be an optional extra, besides I did not feel that I had had much service as the waiters that we saw did not seem to want to be there or be in an obliging mood that evening. Overall I was very disappointed with the evening. This was part of a treat for a Parents 60th Birthday and they felt as if the meal was a disappointment. Such a shame as I had such high expectations of the evening, such a disappointment.

Pre theatre meal, not rushed but could have speeded it up had I wanted to because of the attentive cute waiter. Sufficient choice of drinks including non alcoholic (freshly squeezed blood orange was fab). Despite being underground it was a pleasnt atmosphere and super location in central covent garden

A good meal but excessively expensive and I don't like having a 12 1/2% voluntary gratuity added. That should be left to the customer. Restaurant lacked atmosphere but it was lunch time on new year's day and so naturally very quiet. Fixed price brunch menu gave poor choice.

Enjoyed a fantastic evening out with 3 friends last night at Orso and booked the meal deal pre-theatre menu which had a good choice. We all had excellent food & wine and will definately be going back very soon and can recomend the place highly.
