We booked for noon, and undertook to be clear by 2 p.m. As a long-retired army couple, many of our longest-enduring friends live round Salisbury Plain, and we lure them up to matinees within 15 minutes' walk of Covent Garden. Orso's is an ideal meeting place, and seems to meet with general military approval.

We dined on a Saturday evening. The service was not very friendly and very abrupt. The quality of the food was not great and value for money-wise I would not recommend. The one thing Orso has going for itself is the location. I will not dine there again. A disappointment.

Before The Theatre
Quick efficient service
Cosy table
Food portions exactly right

However, the Restaurant was not that easy to find as it is
downstairs. I would suggest making the sign more pominent and perhaps having some photos by the entrance to give a visual impact.
As I waited for my friend I watched several people look at the menu but walk away.
I think some photos of the interior would draw people into the retaurant.
The staff were excellent, very welcoming and friendly.
I popped in beforehand to request a table in a corner.
I came last year with friends and enjoyed it then. I would definately recommend it to other people.

Great mid-week lunch, we had the special 2 course option and the food was fab! Had a 2 year old with us too and the staff were really great with him.

The waitress who sat us down and served us was quite surly and uninterested, although there seemed to be a couple of other waitresses who seemed genuinely nice - we obviously drew the short straw. Our starters (Crab for my Wife & Grilled Prawns for me) were actually very nice. The wine was severely marked-up, but given the location that was to be expected. The main courses: My wife ordered pasta, which seemed like something you would cook at home when you are in a rush. I ordered the breaded corn fed chicken, which was so plain that I looked around to see if they actually had a microwave and an empty [...] breaded-chicken packet - completely tasteless!Desert - I ordered cheese which was ok, but the 3 red grapes that came with it were a bit of a joke.So then came the bill - [$] (including service)!!Considering the restaurants around the area which charge a similar or even cheaper price, I would strongly advise against this restaurant.

Booked for the pre-theatre menu on a Saturday. Choice of three courses for starter and main course, and two desserts. All food was delicious. Tables are a bit cramped - maybe not the best place for a romantic dinner. Having said that, the restaurant quitened down after the pre-theatre rush, so I'd suggest arriving after 7.30pm if you're looking for a quiet meal.

I was really disappointed with my visit to the Orso restaurant in Covent Garden on Saturday. When I think of Italian restaurants I think of beautiful authentic decor with ambient Italian Music being played whilst you dine. This was supposed to be one of the highlights of my visit; unfortunately this was not the case. On arrival to the restaurant I was asked if I would like a drink whilst I was waiting. this was the only drink that I was offered all evening and there was no suggestion of a wine list at all. Throughout the evening I had one warm bottle of Peroni and one luk warm glass of water. Again, my impression and expectations of Italian food is that there is a vast variety of choice with lots of Traditional Italian choices. Again this was a disappointment. None of the usual well-loved Italian dishes where to offer. I appreciate that not everyone wants to experience the same food every time that they go out, however the choice was weak and not very exciting. Once my food arrived I was slightly more optimistic, however I found that others in my party felt that their food was not hot enough, however I will say that I enjoyed my main. Finally on to the desert which for me was divine, a panacotta with plume sauce. unfortunately I cannot say that I thought this was value for money as a member of my party paid [$] for 3 scoops of ice-cream.The cost of the meal in my eyes was unacceptable for what we ate. Nearly £200 for 6 people and like I said this was with 1 round of drinks. The final insult was the [$] service charge that was added onto of our bill, and was added in such a way that it could not be an optional extra, besides I did not feel that I had had much service as the waiters that we saw did not seem to want to be there or be in an obliging mood that evening. Overall I was very disappointed with the evening. This was part of a treat for a Parents 60th Birthday and they felt as if the meal was a disappointment. Such a shame as I had such high expectations of the evening, such a disappointment.
