Encased in stunning tribal carvings and furnishings, Shaka Zulu in Camden transports diners into the heart of Africa. Spanning 2 floors, this iconic restaurant, bar and club offers South African speciality dishes and live music.

The Shaka Zulu menu is that of a true Braai restaurant – there is delicious homemade biltong through to traditional regional specialties such as sosaties, bobotie, and the famous boerewors sausage. Exotic African game is also imported for diners, with crumbled zebra loin, cumin crusted ostrich fillet and springbok available. Salads and vegetarian options like butternut ravioli are also offered.

Shaka Zulu restaurant in London also features a separate bar and exclusive late night entertainment at its King’s Club. A wide selection of wines, champagnes and cocktails are served at both, with live DJs and performances from international artists. Live music performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays include a cover charge. An exciting rewards scheme offers diners the chance to claim experiences like private cooking classes and flights to South Africa.

Fabulous Decor, a must see

Service was excellent, taken straight to our table downstairs by very polite staff. Waiter arrived pronto. Did not wait for courses, they arrived pretty quickly after each other. Food was good, but extremely small portions. Overpriced drinks and extras. We had groupon coupon. When meal was over we were asked if we wanted coffee/tea etc. On refusal we were asked if we would like the bill as they were people upstairs waiting to be seated. This was really odd, as there were empty tables everywhere, and on going upstairs there was no one waiting. Decor was absolutely amazing. Worth a visit just to see it. Really great. Would recommend to friend.

Awful, overpriced food. Service was very bad, with a waiter/security guard throwing each dish in the middle of the table instead of in front of diners. Food lacked any flavour, and deserts had clearly been sitting around for a time. Overpriced wine list, waiter tried to get us to swap our selected bottle for one 'he was trying to get rid of'....bad!! AVOID AVOID AVOID. They even post the bad newspaper reviews on their own website, take a look for yourself.

Is this all just a big joke on Londoners with more money than sense/taste?

Not impressed

We wanted to celebrate a birthday there, but the service was very poor waited at least 20 minutes between each course. You would expect great food for the pricey menu but we were dissapointed. Very stingy on the corn bread with the salmon and also there were only two starters available out of the three. It's not as if the restuarant is packed so we didn't see why it took so long and we were also baffled as to why they charge so much for very average food. It's nothing special and they can really give you a bit more on your plate - especially some veg with your meat.
Overall felt very flat after we left, as the service and the food was a total let down. Very dissapointing as we were sooo looking forward to go there. South African food is suppose to be generous and friendly and Shaka Zulu is none of that sadly to say.
Perhaps that's why the atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon was so poor as there were almost nobody in there.
Please have a re-think of the prices - you might get more custom!!!!

Atmosphere great. Amazing decor, best I have ever seen. Cocktails great and seating on time. Samoosa and spicy prawns great, main course a little disapointing but just a wrong personal choice.
Need to tell staff to show customers visiting on groupon the whole menu.
Staff need to be trained to sell the food on offer, and be able to recommend dishes.
For instance the vanilla custard tart was absolutely amazing and would come back time and again for this. I would tell all of the staff to recommend this dessert it is great. Wonderful.

The decor is pretty spectacular, worth seeing- food is very tasty, but portions are small.
Menu is quite expensive and so are the drinks. Nice atmosphere, could be even better, something was missing, probably some music in the dining area..
However, overall a very good choice for late night dining - combining with drinks at the club upstairs after dinner (no separate entrance fee).

[...] The staff overall were rude, stressed and unhelpful (except for on manager), the service was incredibly slow, most of the alcohol we wanted to order was not available. The food was average, although the spit of the day was good. The ambience is quite fun and something to see, but overall it was a very disappointing evening, especially as we had planned it to be a night out with friends.

Was much more average than I expected. wasn't too impressed with food at all, not very African as Advertised. Atmosphere was ok. Drinks were expensive, and although menu sounds very exotic, the flavours were not very special/different at all.

'A super 'Lost City' African experience!

Although our waitress was fairly unsure of the 'Essence of Africa' menu when asked about a certain dish, as well as the only one serving 4 tables in the Braai Area.. we were satisfied with everything else. The food is sensational, spit of the day definitely recommended. Drinks too steep in price, but then if you are entertaining it's not a prob.. for us hard-working citz it will have to be a bi-monthly treat to go there!
