Booked online and no problems which I found very easy to do and we had no problems when we got there. Fantastic building. We went as a party of nine which included two birthday girls. [...] Food was ok. Birthday girls got a free dessert which was a lovely surprise.

We arrived at 7.30pm on Monday 4th February our reception was warm and friendly and we were shown to our pre-booked table straight away. Service initially was attentive, helpful and prompt but between the main course and dessert we were unable to get the attention of the waitress to make our dessert order. This caused a long delay between courses, however at the end of the meal our entire family commented on the good quality of the food. The manager helped our disabled and aged mother out of the restaurant through a special exit with a lift. The overall experience was good and we would return.

We were booked in for 7pm and the restaurant was already busy. The setting in the Grand Assembly Hall really gives the restaurant character and appeal and is worth a visit in itself. The staff were attentive and despite being extremely busy we were not rushed. The food came quickly and was well presented. There was some confusion over the wine order and this was remedied quickly and without fuss. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and we had plenty of time to chat. The meal was good value at a tad over £100 for five adults with wine and deserts.

mediocre food, no atmosphere, the restaurant felt cold. Average food, no buzz. Although the building is lovely.
City centre location.

I booked a table for 6 people following a day at the races. We arrived a little earlier than our booking time but was able to be accommodated which was great.
The menu selection was ok, could do with a few more options for vegetarians. I'm personally not into food being served on platters or slates but like a proper plate which is warmed! One of our meals was about 5 minutes late in arriving to everyone else's despite two other people ordering the same dish.
Due to the acoustics of the building it is quite noisy when busy so can be difficult to hear conversations. Whilst we had a nice time we all felt food was not as good as in previous visits.

I've dined at Ask in Hull & Beverley both are fantastic for service & food, In York the service was A1+ but the food was somewhat a let down,
Dined at 6 o'clock there was a few younger persons present.
Building echo's a lot & the floor is not good when someone walks past that is heavy footed

Dined at 5pm using the tesco reward vouchers. Have not been here before but would come again. Everything lovely. Not particularly big portions and quite expensive for what you got I thought but food was really lovely. we had the sharer as a starter and would have liked more choice on the plate and more of it in general really. Not sure I would want to dine here regularly without an offer of some sort. Wine expensive too. Good job we had offere of half price on that also so we did alright. NOT COMPLAINING.

The service was appalling. We had three different waiting staff and none of them knew what the other was doing. It took us three attempts to get a jug of water, and then it came with no glasses, so we had to wait again for them to appear. The wine came after the starter had arrived. The food was in small portions, definitely average and over priced. The bill was wrong when it came and needed to be amended. Luckily it was just a random night out for us, if it had been a special occasion it would have ruined the night. Felt like we'd paid a lot of money for poor service and average food. Won't be going again or recommending to anyone.

We called on Monday evening at 8pm, our waitress was very helpful and attentive. The starters excellent, the main course delicious and the desert lovely. The staff where all very attentive and a special mention and thanks to our waitress and the restaurant manager. We had dined at Piccolino the night before believing it would be a treat, but we where left disappointed, the food was average the service slow and the standard poor... wish we had gone to Ask first.
