I hadn't dined at Ask Old Town for a few years. The decor is new and does not compliment the age of the building. It looks more like a John Lewis cafe than a cosy Italian restaurant. It is very noisy even when it is not really busy, very bad acoustics!! Our cold bottle of wine was served with boiling hot glasses straight out of the dishwasher so that killed the chill of the wine straight away.

The food was pretty grim too. I had a Chicken and Mushroom pasta with no chicken and very little taste. Garlic bread was bland and undercooked.

Not rushing bad there anytime soon!!

We had an evening meal - the atmosphere was quite quiet and relaxing and the meal was superb. Can't wait to visit again.

Ate at 8pm on a Thursday, group of 5 friends. Staff v friendly and quick to take your initial order, then they seemed to disappear. Slow to come back to offer dessert. Same on my last visit a few months ago, when we abandoned desserts and coffee in the end. Quite noisy (probably as we ate in the conservatory) which can make it difficult to follow the conversation. However, food good (portions on the smaller size)and the white wine recommended on their menu was excellent and a decent price. If the service was more consistent then I would recommend this place.

My friend and I dined at 8.00 pm on a Friday - we don't see each other much so catching up on family detail/information is important but on this Friday evening it was impossible due to a party of about 12 girls for a 12th birthday party. They had a great time which is brilliant but it spoilt it for my friend and I as we had to shout at each other to be heard. We would normally go to Prezzos but thought it would be quieter at Ask.

I think 12 year olds should be booked in much earlier than 8.00 pm.
