Something of a disappointment - the quality of the food was patchy, there was an error on the bill, and the classic dining room and the excellent service didn't quite make up for the rest.

Lovely ambience for a special birthday lunch. Slightly over attentive waiters but overall very pleasant. Lots of lovely little extras.

With all the new restaurants with exposed brickwork, hanging light bulbs and achingly cool crowd; it's important to visit the fine dining establishments which have lead the way for so long.Helene Darroze at the Connaught is a must, we dined on the lunch menu which was excellent value and it was remarkable.Delicious amuse bouche containing a chorizo foam geared us up for the knockout three courses to come.A big slab of foie gras with curiously original caramelised banana and ginger was excellent for a greedy guts like me.Pulling the richness back a little I opted for the mackerel with a mango salsa and the food lifted the dish beautifully, it was light and just what I needed after something so rich and decedent. Finally dessert – Champagne rhubarb crumble; thank god the chairs are sturdy and comfortable as I would have otherwise fell out of it, what a knockout!I would highly recommend visiting an absolute gem of a restaurant, it's faultless!
