More about The Happenstance

Combining eclectic interiors and floor-to-ceiling views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the City of London, The Happenstance is something out of a storybook. Here, mixologists conjure up colourful cocktails and rich flavours mingle to create a menu of wholesome comfort food.

Fresh ingredients are used to produce dishes bursting with flavour. Favourites on The Happenstance menu include cottage pie topped with swede mash, and a lamb burger with feta, piquillo peppers and tzatziki. The dessert menu features a knickerbocker glory, complete with chocolate ice cream, honeycomb, and cherries, as well as liquid dessert cocktails, like the coke float with rum, sherry, cola, and ice cream.

The mixology table takes centre-stage and offers a list of original Happenstance fairytale cocktails with names like ‘Prince Charming’, ‘Love Potion #9’, and ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine'.

Shimmering chandeliers, geometric patterns on the floor, and exposed pipes on the ceilings lend a dreamlike ambience to The Happenstance in St Paul’s. This quirky retreat is a 5-minute walk from St Paul’s Tube Station.

Booking was easy. Food was lovely. Service was a bit slow, but we didn't mind, we weren't in a rush. Would definitely recommend and go back.

We had the £15 deal for steak, lobster and prosecco. Loved our dinner here - the steak was cooked perfectly, the lobster was great too. Amazing value for the deal and will definitely be coming back to try new things from the menu. We also sampled the cocktail menu - another thing I'll definitely be doing again!

When we arrived we were quickly seen to and seated. The waiter was attentative with taking our orders throughout the whole evening. Very patient when we forgot to look at the menu, as we were busy chatting. The food was very nice as we had the lobster and burger deal with a glass of Prosecco. We felt the lobster was a bit over cooked, which made it a bit chewy. The burger was cooked well. For a Wednesday night quick catch-up over something nice to eat, Happenstance was ideal.

Fab location, great food and drink menu and the staff are so attentive. Couldn't fault Tom & the crew. We'll be back

Good food, good atmosphere, very loud in bar area, OK in the restaurant, good value for money, great wine list, majority of staff fabulous - some "over zealous" and one questioned my friend when she sent food back to the a point that was frankly rude.

8 of us dined here Friday after work we had the Star Deal of half lobster, burger, chips and a glass of prosseco for £15. I have to say we were not expecting much especially when it came to lobster for the cost because you kind of expect seafood that cheap to not be of good quality. We were pleasantly surprised the lobster and all other elements were delicious and amazing value for money, the venue was stunning much larger than we thought by the photos online and the group had a great time - we will definitely be back!

Was very pleasantly surprised when I walked in, the décor and vibe was great, from the street it just looked like a small restaurant, but once inside I was blown away.
The staff were really friendly, food was great, and would definitely recommend and visit again.
I went with a friend and had the £15 lobster and burger with a glass of prosecco deal, but having looked at the full menu, which was very reasonable and tempting, would happily order from the menu next time. The only criticism, if any, of the food, was that the half lobster was more like a 'piece' of lobster on top of your burger with the shell on the plate for decoration, but was still really yummy.!
I also liked the 'skinny' options on the menu for food and cocktails.

We went for the £15 lobster + burger deal. Overall disappointed. Their 'speciality' chips were just swamped in BBQ sauce or sprinkled with a little bit of Parmesan.

Drinks and food slow, very understaffed, although the two waitresses that were there were apologetic

Didn't think the burger was the amazing.

I went in with a friend after a tiring but lovely day in London. We were greeted by very friendly staff and sat in the light, airy bar with two glasses of wine before being shown into the restaurant. This was lovely; spacious with nice decor and an open cooking area at the end where you could watch the food being prepared. We were attended to quickly and the food arrived in record time, although admittedly we had gone early and there were not many customers at that time. I suspect it is popular and would get very busy later. We had the lobster and steak which was delicious and the burger cooked perfectly. The waitress was very good and friendly. .The cloakroom was spotless and had Molton Brown hand wash and hand cream; nice touch. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
