The service was good. We had the burger, lobster and prosecco deal which was excellent value and was so tasty! I'll be going back!

More about The Happenstance

Combining eclectic interiors and floor-to-ceiling views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the City of London, The Happenstance is something out of a storybook. Here, mixologists conjure up colourful cocktails and rich flavours mingle to create a menu of wholesome comfort food.

Fresh ingredients are used to produce dishes bursting with flavour. Favourites on The Happenstance menu include cottage pie topped with swede mash, and a lamb burger with feta, piquillo peppers and tzatziki. The dessert menu features a knickerbocker glory, complete with chocolate ice cream, honeycomb, and cherries, as well as liquid dessert cocktails, like the coke float with rum, sherry, cola, and ice cream.

The mixology table takes centre-stage and offers a list of original Happenstance fairytale cocktails with names like ‘Prince Charming’, ‘Love Potion #9’, and ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine'.

Shimmering chandeliers, geometric patterns on the floor, and exposed pipes on the ceilings lend a dreamlike ambience to The Happenstance in St Paul’s. This quirky retreat is a 5-minute walk from St Paul’s Tube Station.

We went for the £15 lobster + burger deal. Overall disappointed. Their 'speciality' chips were just swamped in BBQ sauce or sprinkled with a little bit of Parmesan.

Drinks and food slow, very understaffed, although the two waitresses that were there were apologetic

Didn't think the burger was the amazing.

I went in with a friend after a tiring but lovely day in London. We were greeted by very friendly staff and sat in the light, airy bar with two glasses of wine before being shown into the restaurant. This was lovely; spacious with nice decor and an open cooking area at the end where you could watch the food being prepared. We were attended to quickly and the food arrived in record time, although admittedly we had gone early and there were not many customers at that time. I suspect it is popular and would get very busy later. We had the lobster and steak which was delicious and the burger cooked perfectly. The waitress was very good and friendly. .The cloakroom was spotless and had Molton Brown hand wash and hand cream; nice touch. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

A great evening out. The restaurant seemed a bit understaffed but we were not in a rush so it was no problem. A beautifully put together restaurant and a good friendly vibe. We had the lobster special which great and the rest of the menu came across as well priced given the location, finishes and quality of food.

Had a lovely meal at the Happenstance with my husband, the night we went was a friday early evening (5.30) seemed a little empy at first in the restaurent but soon filled up, the bar at the front of house was a lovely meeting place with nice coctails to choose from, our meal was deal of the week which was burger and lobster, i changed mine to lobster and steak which was no problem and the same price all the menu was reanobally priced for such a lovely area (oppisite St Pauls Cathederal), as the night got busy the staff seemed a little rushed but the girl at the end said this had been one of the busiest nights they had had in a while and still the same amount of staff on. Both my husband and I had a lovely meal and the few minutes extra waiting was fine as we just sat back and people watched, overall the the both meal and experience was lovely, and not expensive for city restaurant. Just a quicky the toilets were nice and clean and had free mints...

The service was not attentive at all, we had to call the waiter at the beginning to even be acknowledged and order drinks, then again to have our plates cleared and to get a dessert menu and once again to ask for the bill. The waiter said they were unable to do medium rare hamburger. And the main course what not what it was advertised as. We had the half lobster and burger. Then tiny bit of lobster that came out of the small shell was shoved into the hamburger and the hamburger was quite flavourless. All in all not a great experience.

Quite loud, in terms of ambience, but food was very good. Service a little sloppy, but to be expected with 32 people on the table opposite and the restaurant nigh on full. Nice premises, particularly the lower ground. Overall enjoyed it.
