Présentation du restaurant
Built in 1864, the Randolph hotel and Acanthus restaurant remain one of the most significant Grade II-listed buildings in Oxford. Championing fresh fish and seafood alongside British steaks, Acanthus has an unrivalled dedication to seasonality and sourcing.
Designed by head chef Rhys Jackson, the menu is packed with carefully sourced and responsibly produced, British seasonal ingredients. The opulent high ceilings and dark oak floor of the dining room set the scene for comfort and indulgence in the heart of Oxford.
Tucked behind the restaurant you will find the Cartoon bar, which features carefully designed cocktails inspired by local landmarks and international small plates ideal for sharing. The Cartoon bar is widely known as one of the best bars in Oxford.
Find Acanthus and Cartoon bar on the corner of Beaumont and Magdalen street, just a 15-minute walk from Oxford Train Station.

Food was not to a standard I would have expected from a high end restaurant, I actually think they have lost their way on who to cater for. The ambience and character is so good, their food should be marked according. So unfortunately I was taking my wife out for a fantastic dining evening and was left disappointed...

Do not miss an opportunity to dine at the Acanthus restaurant at the Randolph Hotel. The food, the service, the dining room itself - all are perfect. I would say it is the most beautiful and atmospheric dining room in Oxford. We had the shepherds pie, which we highly recommend, and one of the best salads of our trip. Thank you to everyone at the restaurant for making our meal so special.

On entering the restaurant, staff wanted a voucher - I had the reference no. from the booking but sorted out. We were on time at 1.00pm. Lovely dining room and good table Order taken but had to ask twice for the prosecco By 2.00pm still no food so we inquired - and were given a second drink - food came by 2.15pm Food fine Bill - over charged - we were charged for 3 courses - we had only had 2. I had to sort this out and they did remove the service charge It was a case of good food in a wonderful setting but the service was dire

Went for Sunday lunch and enjoyed lovely food and cocktails. Service was excellent and certainly value for money. Will certainly book again next time we visit our daughter in Oxford. Visited the Morse Bar and had the mandatory photo beside picture of John Thaw.

For years the Randolph has been renowned among Oxford people for its poor food and bad service, but we nonetheless risked a lunch. it was, quite simply, appalling. It was so bad that it was almost comic: Our soup came with a slice of stale white bread instead of the soda bread promised on the menu, and neither the chef nor the head waiter seemed able to tell the difference. The “minute steak sandwich” took more than 45 minutes to prepare (I suggest renaming it the “45-minute steak sandwich”) and when it came was served with crisps as a side dish. I noticed that the clock in the dining room was set 10 minutes late - and wondered whether this was an attempt to make patrons believe their food had not taken so long to arrive. You could perhaps try the overpriced set tea because the Randolph is still physical beautiful and it’s hard to mess up a scone, but avoid hot food at all costs. Whoever runs Macdonald Hotels needs to take a serious look at what is going on at the Randolph.

Very pleasant setting, artistic museum-like decoration of the room. Refined food with original touches.

We were looked after very well. We would have liked a bit more choice of vegetarian/vegan dishes.

It was exceptional, the hotel, staff, food. We visited for a special occasion and we were treated very well. Staff friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed the experience of it featuring in Morse but as restaurants go, little ambience or atmosphere. If it wasn’t for the Morse connection I would not recommend.
