Australasia is a stylish sanctuary hidden in the heart of the city. Entered via a glass pyramid on Deansgate, this Manchester restaurant is a place of relaxed elegance and laid-back luxe, and has become one of Manchester’s favourite restaurants since opening in 2011.
Capturing the true essence of modern Australia, the generous Australian spirit is reflected in the menu with influences drawn from the Pacific Rim. Exciting fresh flavours with a particular focus from Australia’s strong links with Japan and Southeast Asia, the menu features a range of exquisite sushi and light tempura, robata grill favourites and ‘big’ and ‘small’ plates to satisfy all appetites, such as roasted baby aubergines with caramel miso and katsuobushi, black cod roasted in hoba leaf and chicken breast with sesame miso and spiced panko leg. It also offers an array of flavoursome vegetarian and vegan dishes, designed to showcase the very best fresh produce and offer a meat-free alternative to all courses.
For those seeking a midday retreat an additional lunch menu is available, featuring Bento Boxes with sushi and Asian influenced savoury items followed by beautiful sweet treats and accompanied by flowering teas. Guests can also refresh with a cherry-picked list of sakes and exclusive cocktails from the Australasia bar, or peruse the extensive wine list or selection of infused waters.

favorite restaurant in manchester, however need to improve your desserts as after amazing meal you desserts are up to the same quality as the main meal which makes it finish on a bit of a downer. not saying they are bad but not the same wowness as the main meals.

Quality of food poor, wasn’t impressed I visited restaurant few years ago and it’s massively gone down in my book was put in a secluded booth away from the restaurant.

A beautifully appointed restaurant and not at all dark considering it is subterranean. The service was excellent throughout. We thought the menu was rather confusing although did have guidance. Decided on easy option of Bento Box which was interesting and enjoyable.

Requested a booth & we were given one, when we asked when being shown to our table. Dishes, well we like the small plate idea a lot ! The oysters were gorgeous, the scallops & the new king prawns. The Asian coleslaw was gorgeous.

Amazing experience, all the food was excellent. Service was impeccable. Especially nice touch giving my son a glass of champagne for his graduation. Highly recommend the beef sharing board.

The experience of an asian high tea was very pleasant and the terrace at Australasia is well worth a visit.

Afternoon tea gives an impression of sandwiches and pots of tea, this is more eclectic and some of the offered items are more in sushi style but still very nice. Quite a lot of tasty cakes but not a great choice of teas just 3 or 4 to choose from and a small pot. Interesting and reasonably filling overall.
