A finalist in Masterchef: The Professionals in 2016, Matt Healy at The Foundry is a funky modern venue for unique takes on British classics worthy of a Michelin Plate in the Michelin Guide. The red brick warehouse-style space is loaded with character, and features seating at the front to enjoy al fresco meals and drinks.
Matt Healy has crafted a truly inventive, exciting menu that gives new life to established British dishes. Nibble on snacks and charcuterie to start, like chorizo in cider, or order some of the small plate sharers like hand-cut beef tartare with yolk and a cheese and onion toastie. Tastes of the local area are served up with the Yorkshire venison, with other seasonal dishes added to the menu constantly.
An extensive wine list is on hand at Matt Healy at The Foundry in Leeds to complement any meal, along with freshly mixed cocktails like the gin and tonic made with Portobello Road Gin and fresh botanicals. Desserts are beautifully presented too, and include favourites like crème brûlée doughnut, and lemon posset with sherbet and meringue.
A polished yet ruggedly individual venture from the celebrated chef, Matt Healy at The Foundry is a 10-minute walk from Leeds Rail Station.

I booked a table here for my husband’s 50th birthday which was on Valentine’s Day. We took our 10 year old son along and the whole experience was perfect from start to finish. Being Valentine’s Day it was a fixed menu, which we weren’t expecting, but everything on it was absolutely delicious and even the 10 year old loved it. Staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Couldn’t fault a single thing. We will be back!!

Staff were all so friendly and you could see they were genuinely happy to be at work. Instantly felt relaxed. Amazing value for money in Michelin star restaurant - like the honesty in not overpricing alcohol which most restaurants do once they gain stars. Food was exceptional, beef tartare with cheese toastie I will remember forever! The beef was cooked to perfection and The sauces and flavours compliments every dish. We went to Roots in York the following evening and were massively disappointed in price and taste in comparison. The foundry is definitely leading in sharing plates concept. It was lovely to be able to see the kitchen and chef the whole way through, and for they even asked at the end what we thought on the way out, it was lovely to talk to them.

Excellent Sunday roast lovely atmosphere Negatives: I ordered the soup for a starter but it never arrived! Peas and green beans were cold lastly we arrived and it took 45 mins for food to arrive - which is a long time to entertain a baby

This restaurant never disappoints, every dish is to die for but the roast dinner is on another planet. My favourite has to be the beef, which is not only huge but like butter, this also comes with chicken (so juicy) and loads of ratatouille veggies for £19.95 an absolute steal

All I can say is WOW!! Met and exceeded our expectations. Food was out of this world. All our choices were excellent- we had 2 snack plates and 5 main plates between us, desserts and a lovely bottle of Rioja blanco. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to try again.

Our daughter gave us a voucher for the restaurant as a Christmas present - she lives in London so we were excited to try this. The restaurant was quiet - a Tuesday evening in mid January - not surprising. An intersting building but rather stark, ambiance might be good on a warm summers day but not great on a cold January evening- there's a very fine line between Scandi Chic and Works Canteen. Reviews seem to suggest Sunday lunch is the one to go for- perhaps we should have done that. A series of random dishes brought out at odd intervals- some quite nice , others sparce and not well balanced. My husband ended up with the late arrival at the ball of a couple of slivers of indiffently cooked duck with the ubiquitous hoi-sin sauce. This isn't reinventing the menu, its throwing the baby out with the bath water. Yorkhire Rhubarb! Now who doesn't love that?- poached, crumble, tart, all three- give me more! What did we get? - 3 sad little pieces, tasteless, undercooked and teamed with a cold custard tart with a tough and heavy bottom - I suppose it makes a change from soggy. The cheese course was the best bit for me, the cheese was good and interesting, the quince was nice, there was enough sour dough to feed an army - which is probably why it came dry with no butter. As others have noted, the kitchen was not busy and the chefs seemed to have time to chat to each other but did not use the quiet time to come and talk with the customers and find out what they were thinking, what was working and what wasn't. There was an air of 'we are closing soon and are starting to pack up" Attention to your customers springs to mind. Perhaps no one took our coats because they knew we would need them.

Liked the relaxed style of the restaurant, very welcoming staff who were attentive throughout. Best bits - Pork belly, squid and beetroot for starters, great to share and extremely tasty and well put together. Beef fillet was amazing, cooked to perfection with a lovely buttery potato and onion purée to accompany it. Hake was excellent as were the lamb cutlets that my wife had. Wine was reasonably priced with a good selection. Not so good bits - they had ran out of scallops for starters, we ate quite early so thought they would still have an obviously popular starter. My wife commented that the lamb hotpot she had with her main was over salted, I tasted it and had to agree. Surely sour dough crackers or similar would be better with a cheese course rather than sour dough bread. Overall, would definitely go back and would recommend, a few tweaks was all it needed to make it a perfect meal.

Enjoy every visit to The Foundry. The tasting plates are great and really looking forward to the new menu. If you haven't checked out the Sunday lunch menu yet then you are missing out! Best in Leeds and extra gravy available if you need it!
