Présentation du restaurant

A beautiful redbrick hotel dating back to 1704, The Plough & Harrow presents refined British cuisine for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea in its elegant dining and lounge rooms. Dining in the main restaurant is a sophisticated and formal experience, whilst afternoon tea can be taken in the relaxed lounge or on the sun-drenched terrace.

The Plough & Harrow restaurant menu is graced by 12 hour-cooked pork belly with apple and honey purée, and a pan-fried Mediterranean sea bass with squid ink linguine, mussels and vermouth sauce. Rhubarb ‘5 ways’ is an enigmatic end to proceedings, and sits on the dessert list next to a white chocolate torte with chocolate gel and sugared mint leaves.

A light menu in The Plough & Harrow lounge features dainty sandwich options like smoked salmon and cream cheese, and pink roast beef with vine tomatoes and rocket, alongside salads and sharing platters. Indulgent afternoon tea is a traditional collection of finger sandwiches, freshly-baked scones and a chocolate fancy.

Just a 10-minute walk from the centre of Birmingham on Hagley Road, The Plough & Harrow Hotel enjoys a tranquil, leafy pocket of the city.

Beautiful restaurant and a delightful, tasty afternoon tea especially the scones and cream.

Good food as usual. We both had the belly pork which was delicious. There was a comprehensive breakfast menu including kippers and smoked salmon

I booked a cream tea for myself & a friend. We were served promptly, staff were friendly & efficient. The food was excellent value. The room was well laid out & welcoming, it was a pity that there wasn’t any other diners (possibly because it was January). This is my second visit & I look forward to many more.

I was very disappointed with my festive afternoon tea experience - the room was large with a few table 'plonked' in - there were big space voids and no atmosphere. The crockery was chipped and the food was nothing special. Our scones were significantly delayed in arriving at the table, as there was some issue with them, but we received no apology or explanation from management. Will definitely not be coming back or recommending to any friends.

Like an episode of Fawlty Towers! Chose the restaurant to take business clients out for dinner with a total of five of us looking forward to the dining experience and menu listed on the website but this should have been our first clue that things would not work out as expected. We were the only diners in the whole restaurant so the customer service should have been exceptional...however the waitress did not have a clue about the drinks or food menu and was not proactive or helpful. The food itself was not as described on the menu...in the case of the steak which was ordered to be medium was tougher than any boot I have ever worn! I could list things wrong with most dishes that were served but I haven't got the time or inclination other than to say we will never darken the plough and harrow again and had to take our clients to the Plough in Harborne for lunch today so they do not take back to Holland a negative lasting memory of Birmingham.

Booking was fine. The Plough & Harrow is beautiful and I really wanted to see it again as I have not been for quite some time. I know it has had a few problems keeping it up to scratch. The restaurant was pleasant, although in need of redecoration as it was quite "scruffy". However, the white tablecloths and setting was lovely. We were the only people in the restaurant for Sunday lunch though so there was no atmosphere. No-one else turned up for the whole 2 and half hours we were there. Shame really. The service was good, although a little "weird", I was told off for the way I opened the water bottle!? Food was lovely, but luke warm. I would come back though as we had a pleasant lunch and good value for money.
