We went for a family sunday meal. The atmosphere was relaxing, the food was good, especially the beef and the fish and chips. Very reasonably priced too.

From a limited main menu we were surprised to be informed that one of the items was sold out by 7.30pm on a Bank Holiday weekend. The bar had also run out of dry vermouth. As this is my favoured drink and is often used as an aperitif, I wasn't very impressed. The Fighting Cocks promotes itself as a pub with a restaurant after all. The bar service itself was particularly poor with inattentive bar staff and a complacent bar manager. The waiting staff was very attentive. Our food was satisfactory. However, the music was far too loud for a dining area and at times so loud it was uncomfortable. It was very difficult to talk across the table. When we asked if it could be turned down, we were told that it wasn't possible because it was a Saturday night. At the time no one was dancing. People were sitting and trying to talk . I think Fighting Cocks might be confusing itself with a nightclub. It was meant to be a restaurant area. On this occasion, overall we were not impressed. Such a shame because this is an atmospheric pub with plenty of character. We felt let down.

The venue was dark, dreary and suffered from dogs in the establishment who were constantly barking and scrounging for food.

lovely Sunday Roast. Very disappointed that my Mother in Laws Dietary requirements were not fully met. Food was sent out not cooked properly and then returned to her from the microwave. This which resulted in her eaten plain boiled food which she said was awful. They had over a days noticed of this prior to our visit and when I asked one of the girls working there she said they just need a mornings noticed and wasn't sure why the meals wasn't fully prepared. I even tried phoning up the pub days before but it constantly rings out.
