Présentation du restaurant

Nestled inside the stunning Kilconquhar Castle Estate, The White Cockade Bistro is a charming family-friendly eatery. A great selection of Scottish flavours are served throughout the day, while the homely interior features comfy leather seats, historic local photographs on the wall, and curious nautical knick knacks throughout.

The White Cockade Bistro menu starts off with a range of continental breakfast options, as well as the celebrated full Scottish cooked breakfast with black pudding and haggis. For lunch, there are rustic sandwiches, baked potatoes and other wholesome favourites, while at dinner the menu opens up to include gourmet bistro recipes. There are fresh seafood treats like pots of steamed West Coast mussels, as well as other local specialities like the casserole of mint-infused mutton.

The Scottish delicacies continue on the dessert menu at The White Cockade Bistro in Fife, with the 'Dream of Robert the Bruce' pudding featuring an all-butter shortbread sandwich filled with vanilla ice cream, butterscotch sauce, and finished with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate pieces. Up at the bar, there are international beers on tap, as well as bottles of whisky from across Scotland.

With a snug, homely feel, The White Cockade Bistro also offers dedicated menus for kids, and is just a 5-minute drive from the picturesque Kilconquhar Loch.

Overall a reasonable experience. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food ok but not outstanding. Ambience pretty poor, though. The lighting is too stark for a relaxed evening experience and the lack of music can leave the restaurant sounding rather like a cheap canteen, not at all reflective of the prices nor I'm sure the aim. Handy if staying on site but a few simple changes could enhance the experience.

We ordered three MEDIUM steaks. All 3 were undercooked. The meat was pale brown, not the nice chargrilled meat you’d expect from a place that offers a regular steak night. Despite this my husband and son were happy to eat the rare “very chewy” (son’s comment) steak. I asked the waiter to change mine as I don’t like rare steak. I was brought back the same steak which was now completely grey and over cooked. When I commented that it wasn’t very pleasant the grumpy elderly waiter responded with a shrug “well that’s what happens when you cook it longer”. His tone was condescending. I’ve eaten plenty of good steak in my time. Your chef cannot cook a medium steak and requires more training. No apology was made, just a kind of head hanging and disgruntled mumble as he walked away from to table with my chewy grey matter.
