Championing the best of the Scottish larder, Michael Neave Kitchen and Whisky Bar offers creations from one of Scotland’s most promising young chefs: named runner-up of Young Scottish Chef of the Year. Offsetting the rich, luxurious menu, a sleek minimalist dining room is set over 2 floors.

A finalist in Young Chef of the Year 2010, Neave brings innate passion and flair to his menu. Sourcing the finest produce from the Scottish countryside, enjoy dishes like Perthshire roe deer with carrot & lavender purée, or North Berwick lobster & crab ravioli. Elegant twists for dessert include Victoria plum soufflé with pistachio biscotti.

As well as a knowledgeably compiled wine list, Michael Neave restaurant in Edinburgh offers an excellent selection of whiskies, rare gins and estate rums. Guests can also enjoy drinks out on the champagne terrace during warmer weather.

    Booked a table in December 2019 planning to eat there for a second time, but was advised that the restaurant was closed in early January 2020. It was a very good restaurant. Just sad to hear that Michael Neave closed.

    We were disappointed not to dine at the Kitchen and Whisky Bar as this was a birthday gift based on a personal recommendation, however given there was a boiler issue which impacted our reservation there was no option. Of the two sister restaurants suggested as a substitute, the Jeffrey Street grill and seafood restaurant was the most accessible, being within easy walking distance from Waverley Station. The restaurant was nice, clean and well proportioned and the food was first class. Serving my fish & chips on a slate wasn't ergonomically pleasing as the combination of fish, pot of chips, pot of tartare and pot of crushed peas meant that actually eating it was a bit of a faff. It would have been nice to experience the restaurant we actually booked, but I can't fault the ambiance, food or service from the Grill and Seafood restaurant.

    Incredible food drink and service for amazing price! Scallops w/ black pudding and pea purée were the best I’ve had, cooked perfectly. Salmon ravioli was also delicious, pasta made impeccably. Hake w/ root veg and langoustine bisque was mouth watering, never had fish cooked so amazingly, wish I had an endless supply of the bisque! And then the lamb, was the most tender, most flavourful meat, paired perfectly with mash, mini roasted parsnips and veg- amazing! Pannacotta dessert was very well made, although I could have done with a bigger hit of clementine, and wow the sticky toffee soufflé stole the show, that pudding was a work or art, melt in the mouth with the shortbread and caramel sauce. I have dined in Michelin star kitchens and this is very close to par, for taste, experience and presentation. Brilliant margaritas, and the spiced fig sour was one of the best cocktails I’ve tried. I’m so gutted I live 360 miles from this place as id be here all the time! Hats off to Michael Naeve, you’ve got it going on!

    It was le meal for the new year. We were 4 persons. My friend found the dish too spicy and she has had a new dish. It was very simpatico to change. The meal was very delicious, very beautiful in the plates, very good in the mouth !!!

    Thoroughly enjoyable lunch. All 4 of us opted for the ham hock terrine which was delicious and arrived while we still had our complimentary bread ( bonus! ). I had the special of pork with black pudding, chorizo and white beans at a small supplement. Great choice. The others chose the chicken dish or the fish cake and all were happy with their choices. Coffee and brownie included in the lunch deal, excellent! I should mention the service which was impeccable and chef offered several alternatives for the celiac in our party. Was tempted to give one star just to make it easier to get a table but integrity prevailed. Can see us making this a monthly visit. Superb value!

    Lovely food, good service however I know it is “fine dining” but a few people in our company did feel the portion sizes were on the small side!
