Home to Islington’s bustling neighbourhood, The Alwyne Castle serves comforting British classics from a trusty menu. Teeming with offbeat charm, the restaurant plays host to a sweeping beer garden and boasts a theatrical open kitchen where food is prepared in view of diners. Guests can also enjoy live music sessions on Sunday evenings.
Fresh, flaky cod battered in cider and tarragon is served with skin-on chunky chips and crushed peas, while a juicy pulled pork and chorizo burger topped with caramelised red onions leads the dishes on The Alwyne Castle menu. A hearty Sunday lunch features 21-day aged, roast West Country beef, along with free-range Norfolk pork matched with crisp but succulent crackling.
A string of vintage, rose-coloured fringe lamps suspend from the stretching bar, while charmingly mismatched furnishings litter the cosy dining room. Feature wallpaper lines the walls, and a billowing canopy ceiling complements the stained glass windows in the bright and airy conservatory.
A 5-minute walk from Highbury & Islington Tube Station, The Alwyne Castle in London is just a 3-minute drive to the Almeida Theatre.
