Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.
Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.
Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.

Hotel is a great find and to have such an excellent restaurant, which also sources local products, is fabulous. We’ll be back to eat and stay!

Loved that the side dishes were to share and we have a selection. I think you should offer a two course option. I don't eat puddings (although I did have a tiny spoonful of my husbands chocolate tart which was yummy!)

Attentive service. The lamb dishes were well seasoned, as was the veg. We ate 2 consecutive nights, the squash was missing on both and the green veg was kale; agreed well seasoned. How difficult is it to have a different veg each evening and at least what’s on the menu? Would not want to eat a third night.

I have been to Gallivant many times but this was one of the best.. my friends dog was well received by the team. It was her first visit and she enjoyed both the venue and the fabulous new lunchtime menu choices .. thanks for being awesome again

Our third/fourth visit in as many years. Nice new makeover with more greenery and even more welcoming feeling of space. But the restaurant seems to have moved away from the family-feel it used to have - we were there as a couple only but always like to see family tables. The starter/main combinations were beautifully judged. Lots of freshness in the ingredients. Attentive and helpful staff advised us well on food and wines.

We had lunch and dinner .. very good but menus too similar therefore our choice was limited!. Salt marsh lamb excellent as was pork Crab starter particularly tasty.. however, much of fish wasn’t available at dinner we didn't want meat twice!! Staff very helpful and pleasantly attentive. We would have liked to have booked the restaurant for a family celebration at Easter .. but was told no children under 10years allowed. My grandchildren of 4,5 and 7 wouldn’t be able to come!! Great pity!! The Gallivant was a pleasant new discovery for us and a place we would have liked to make a frequent destination for us and our family.

Easy to book a table. A warm welcome from the management and staff who had good knowledge of their products, being honest if they did not know the answer to a question. All eager to give good service and it feels like a happy place. Informal dining but nice touches such as linen napkins with silver plate napkin rings. Clean glassware. Excellent seasonal and locally sourced ingredients in a tempting dinner menu - good planning and consideration for dietary requirements. Helpful that the menu is published online. Excellent wine list with a large list of very good local English wines at the fore. The Dungeness crab, chicory, fennel, chlli with an orange dressing and brown crabmeat mayonnaise was divine! Congratulations and thank you to team Gallivant!
