Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.
Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.
Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.
A beautiful coastal treat that holds a charming holiday feel, The Gallivant is just an 8-minute drive from Rye Rail Station.

We had lunch and dinner .. very good but menus too similar therefore our choice was limited!. Salt marsh lamb excellent as was pork Crab starter particularly tasty.. however, much of fish wasn’t available at dinner we didn't want meat twice!! Staff very helpful and pleasantly attentive. We would have liked to have booked the restaurant for a family celebration at Easter .. but was told no children under 10years allowed. My grandchildren of 4,5 and 7 wouldn’t be able to come!! Great pity!! The Gallivant was a pleasant new discovery for us and a place we would have liked to make a frequent destination for us and our family.

Incredible, utterly delicious food and an exceptional wine list in beautiful surroundings and just across the road from Camber Sands

Easy to book a table. A warm welcome from the management and staff who had good knowledge of their products, being honest if they did not know the answer to a question. All eager to give good service and it feels like a happy place. Informal dining but nice touches such as linen napkins with silver plate napkin rings. Clean glassware. Excellent seasonal and locally sourced ingredients in a tempting dinner menu - good planning and consideration for dietary requirements. Helpful that the menu is published online. Excellent wine list with a large list of very good local English wines at the fore. The Dungeness crab, chicory, fennel, chlli with an orange dressing and brown crabmeat mayonnaise was divine! Congratulations and thank you to team Gallivant!

We have been coming to The Gallivant for about 5 years now in various ways. We had a thoroughly relaxing afternoon - we were early and so enjoyed a drink before going to our table for lunch. My G&T was the best I’ve ever had - the sliced dried orange in it was a delicious and aromatic touch. We shared Fisherman’s Pie and there was plenty! My husband was delighted thst the apple pie was served with custard, which is rare in restaurants! We had a long walk on the beach before returning for a cuppa - a cosy twinkly welcome greeted us. Purely indulgent, but very relaxing time out and great value for money. Thank you.

Excellent meal, interesting and innovative menu - Jerusalem artichoke tacos, for example. Very comfortable dining room and good service. Altogether a pleasure.

We had such a fantastic time. The staff were lovely, the interiors were stunning,( even the coffee table books were fab! ) but the best bit was the food ! It was amazing! We had a beautiful crab salad to start, a yummy cod dish which I could eat every day ! And an super tasty treacle tart, which was so nice and not too sweet. I can not recommend this place enough! We will definitely be coming back!

Love the setting beside the beach. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed drinks by the fire before we ate. However, I was slightly disappointed with the food. The new chief was much lauded however the food was really nothing special and indeed over priced. Portions were small, any vegetables were in addition to the main price. Apple pie was nice but why serve with cold custard? The Gallivant was one of our favourites having stayed previously. Now they have increased their prices I doubt we will stay, the food wouldn’t be a draw. Sorry because the staff were all very attentive and welcoming.

The food was delicious and the ambiance warm and welcoming. The waiting staff seemed a little inexperienced or perhaps it was the kitchen? The main course arrived before we finished our starter and then we had to wait ages for or plates to be cleared and ages again for our dessert. To be fair they deducted the dessert from our bill.

I have eaten at the Gallivant several times and have never been disappointed. The food was excellent, once again. Not fond of the intrusive piped music in the restaurant, however, and the wine menu was impossible to read in the candlelight, both factors easy to remedy.
