Went for afternoon tea a birthday treat, the service was first class they really wnt that extra bit to ensure we had everything and topped up the tea regularly and the sandwiches were lovely the scones perfect and a yummy selection of tiny cakes. We were very full and really enjoyed a relaxed afternoon.

To be perfectly honest we were not impressed by the food and certainly not impressed by the hot drinks. It was ridiculously expensive for what we got out of the Champagne Afternoon Tea experience. The staff were polite, helpful, smart and courteous. Some music would have been pleasant. The sandwiches were made from generic sliced bread and the fillings were very average. The sandwiches in supermarkets are better. The scones were warmed through which was nice although the jam was generic and tasteless, We had no idea what flavour it was meant to be. The cream was good. The cakes were average and looked like they were just cut from tray bakes except for the macaroons. The cake was all ok but nothing exceptional. The tea was weak and tasteless so we ordered coffee. My americano was fine but my wife's latte was 2/3 froth with 1/3 cup of cool coffee and we found out later that it was from a Starbucks machine. My wife hates Starbucks coffee anyway but even more so when badly made. A latte does not have a huge frothy head and we would expect it to be hot. We had to ask for the champagne since it seemed to have been forgotten. We travelled from Hertford and spent a lot on fares and to be honest would have preferred afternoon tea locally where there is artisan bread, beautifully made cakes and delicious coffee. All I enjoyed from the afternoon was my wife's company and meeting our son later and having a delicious two-course evening meal in the City including drinks for less than the cost of that tea. We would not recommend the experience and felt that foreign tourists would go home thinking British afternoon tea is not great which is sad since it can be wonderful.
