Booking was very straightforward. Service, as ever, was exemplary, from the moment we entered reception, throughout the meal and, latterly, as we departed. The food, in this case the 4 course lunch menu, was super. The standard of the food was very high, as indeed it has been on our previous evening and lunchtime visits. We look forward to coming back, hopefully before too long.

Our first visit to Johns House and we shall certainly be going back when things are "normal" again. Impressed from the moment we walked through the door with friendly greeting and coats taken. Led straight to our table and very soon olives and amazing bread with homemade butter were brought together with our drinks order. We had the lunch menu which was amazing, spoilt for choice but both chose the pork. Nothing to say except delicious and the crackling deserves an award! Deserts were equally sumptuous. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the food, giving us a brief description of the food on our plates at every course. We had coffee downstairs in the comfortable lounge area. All in all an excellent lunch and we look forward tree eagerly to a return visit.

Our first visit - lunch time. Staff really welcoming from the moment we entered the house. Taken through for pre lunch drinks and olives served too . Staff highly attentive. You dine upstairs which is tardis like . Tables well spaced given current circumstances. Lunch menu was pleasant: somewhat narrow but that reflects either economic times or pandemic restrictions on numbers dining I guess . Head waiter was excellent throughout. Loved the home made breads served as an accompaniment. Our choices of food were excellently presented and delicious. Main could have been served hotter and with plates hot too . Not sure if they’d been lurking on a server awaiting being taken to table which was a slight disappointment. Wine list is good . Some great wines available. Sadly they are priced for the type of establishment which is irritating. Deserts were tremendous and Choice of cheeses likewise. Really would recommend and would like to return on a night .

We thoroughly enjoyed our set 3 course lunch. I had lightly smoked salmon that was melt in the mouth followed by Cornish hake and brassicas in different forms. It was beautiful fish, only just cooked and lots of other tastes with it. My husband had the alternative choices and enjoyed his, though he found the potato in the risotto a bit too al dente for his taste. His pork was again a melting experience. His dessert was the quince which he thought divine, my chocolate dessert was too big for the intensity of the chocolate and I could only eat a third. I must also add that the warmth of the building was welcome, the service very attentive and friendly and the room was beautiful. We felt very safe as there is plenty of room.

Excellent high quality food which was delicious in flavour and beautifully presented. The restaurant has a modern but relaxed decor and pleasant atmosphere. Excellent wine and service.

Exquisite meal . Lovely restaurant and great service from all the team Good value food but wines seemed expensive compared with other comparable restaurants The only concern was around allergies - I emailed this it at time of booking. As a quality restaurant I assumed this would have been documented alongside our booking but nothing was checked . I was served my allergen which was not included in the menu description. As soon as alerted to the issue the staff resolved immediately and discreetly Perhaps allergies could be included on booking system to keep everything together or checked at arrival.

My wife and I had lunch at John's to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was our first visit and we were not at all disappointed. From arrival to departure we were looked after in an attentive, knowledgeable and friendly way that helped turn lunch into special occasion theatre. We had the seven course taster menu, which sounds a lot of food but in practice is just about right and the quality was absolutely what you would expect from a Michelin started restaurant. the variety of intense flavours and textures was quite memorable. Add recommended wines and it was a blissful lunch. Finding the place was a slight challenge in the rain but look out for the Tea Rooms sign - that is round the back but entrance through the small car park is the same. There are no real views out the windows but then there is plenty to look at inside, with tables properly spaced under Covid rules. We understand the place has been recently extended and al the finings and furniture are what you would expect at this level. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Wonderful welcome, stunning service, everything including drinks explained in careful detail, and the food......stunning, perfect, wow! Everyone is passionate about giving a dining experience that you will want to repeat! Well deserved a Michelin Star!

Absolutely delicious food at John's House. This was a wedding present from my dad and two sisters, but due to Covid and booking availability before that, we enjoyed the gist a year later! Beautiful setting in a house, and warm, friendly, non intrusive service. The little snacks whilst waiting to be seated were a lovely touch too. We had booked the taster menu, but I guess due to Covid things change, so we enjoyed the 5 course set menu, and it was delicious. For those not used to fine dining you might think the courses a little stark in quantity, but they more than make up for it in the quality ingredients used, created to offer the perfect taste. My husband and I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied and happy with the portion sizes and how tasty the food was. We will definitely be coming back again. I liked the fact that the design of the restaurant was simple, nothing fancy. Well lit so you can see your food whilst you're eating. And parking :)
