Présentation du restaurant

An historic Art Nouveau Grade II-listed London pub, The Blackfriar was built in 1905 on the site of a Dominican friary, and designed by Arts and Crafts Movement artists H. Fuller-Clark and Henry Poole. Saved from demolition by a campaign led by Sir John Betjeman, the pub serves traditional British food in a warm, welcoming environment.

Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Blackfriar menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.

The Blackfriar bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.

The Blackfriar in London is a 3-minute walk from London Blackfriars Tube Station.

The interior is beautiful. The food is nice, the service great. We stayed for over 3 hours on a Sunday afternoon. And the volume of the music was good, not too loud so we could talk. Will be back again.

Very nice historical location. Definitely need a booking, the dining area is quite small. Very good service, particularly for a pub. The food is ok. The prices are really good for London so this place is very good value for money. A bit noisy though, as all pubs.
