Situated next to the Macdonald Berystede Hotel and Spa in Ascot, The 90-seater, Acanthus Restaurant offers a relaxed approach to fine dining, serving both gourmet dishes, and light bites, which guests can enjoy throughout the day surrounded by views of stunning manicured gardens.
In keeping with the undeniably English atmosphere at The Berystede Hotel, the Acanthus menu features traditional English dishes such as jumbo shrimp cocktail or the famous fish pie. Only the finest Scottish beef, British lamb, pork and wild white fish are selected, joined by organic vegetables and dairy products wherever possible. The dessert menu is equally traditional with Braeburn apple Calvados terrine and apple sorbet, and plum and kirsch liqueur trifle amongst the fine selection available.
The Acanthus bar menu offers a selection of sandwiches and salads for a light lunch and also includes more hearty dishes to enjoy for dinner. The quintessentially English afternoon tea menu has been crafted by head chef Ramneek Chugh in collaboration with Macdonald Group Executive Chef Keith Sheerer, and uses the finest ingredients, many of them locally-sourced, to create indulgent afternoon teas.
Three English institutions, Ascot Racecourse, Windsor Park and the Wentworth Club are within a 10-minute drive of the Acanthus restaurant.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was awful. We were very disappointed with the meal; the steaks had a smell as though they were about to go off and they were cooked very quick. My pudding was cold; sticky toffee should be warm but it wasn’t. I guess our timing was off, we visited the night before lockdown began so no one really cared and the food was probably pre cooked ready to serve or something. Anyway that’s our view.

A poor experience. No one to take us to our table for afternoon tea. Food took 30 minutes to arrive and sandwiches were so cold, very unpleasant to eat.

Great evening meal, we had pea soup and pork on first night , was excellent second night we had pea soup again then the steak all were excellent. The breakfast was an anticlimax with it only being lukewarm and seemed pre cooked

Granted the restaurant was probably busier than normal, due to the Eat out to Help out offer, however there was only 1 member of staff working who was having to serve everyone. It seemed like it was a long walk to the kitchen from the dining area as at times he was nowhere to be seen. There was nobody there to seat us when we first arrived for at least a few minutes. There had been heavy rains and sadly the restaurant had a leak from the ceiling, being caught in a big bucket. The Afternoon tea selection was plentiful, fresh and tasty, and nicely presented. When I tried to pay there was confusion over the bill and I had to basically prove (email confirmation) I had booked using the Eat out to Help out offer, as this wasn't automatically deducted from the bill. I still chose to pay the service charge as the man was obviously busy as he was working alone.

The location was lovely but afternoon tea was served in the dark bar area which was also where new arrivals stood and waited to be seated. There was nothing special about the afternoon tea. The scones had very little taste and the macaroons were soggy.
