Poor service and even poorer food - very disappointing =========================================== Food prices seemed expensive but as Ken Lo had been famous in his day we thought we would give it a try. The restaurant ambience is cold and the staff were unwelcomimg and aloof, as if they were oing you a favour by giving you a table. The menus were physically dirty, and drink prices expensive even for London. We ordered the Set Meal A for variety even though choosing individual compaonents would have been cheaper. When the Prawn Crackers arrived they were greasy. With hindsight we should have left then, but the appetisers although salty and nothing special were edible, even though the spare ribs had no ribs. However, then the Peking Duck second course arrived before we had even finished the appetisers.... We asked if they could give us a few minutes between courses and the Duck was whisked away, to re-appear 10 minutes later, waved under our noses, returned to the kitchen to be shredded, then served to us barely warm... The meal went further downhill from there.... The Peking Duck was followed by a trio where the Beef was truly dreadful, very stringy and chewy, the King Prawns tasted as if they had been in the freezer too long, and the Chicken was frankly undercooked. The sweat consisted of a very sugary unidentifiabke sorbet with a few tinned lychees.. Nobody asked if we enjoyed our meal, nor commented on the food we left, which was most of it.. and when we tried to tell them they weren't interested!! Do note that they sneakily add a 12.5% service charge (SC) to the bill, which given our experience I asked them to remove for obvious reasons! No apology from the stony faced staff. As we left we noted that the Food Standards Agency food hygene rating was only 4 out of 5. Your mileage may vary but we shall not be returning given the disappointing service and very poor food..

My wife and I had dinner with a friend from London and a friend from Chicago. Thoroughly enjoyed the excellent and varied dishes and our friends were most impressed by the food, the service and the atmosphere.

It’s always a pleasure to return there.. Pity that more and more people can’t eat without lots of belly laughing throughout their meal. Luckily Ken Lo’s has the private dining rooms to contain them though ,and staff who are very aware of the virtue of a quiet environment. A good experience, excellent food ,and very good service. On a world scale it’s not expensive given the quality ,position, and space per head.
