Présentation du restaurant
XU in London’s Chinatown comes from the team behind BAO, offering a further insight into Taiwanese cooking - beyond those famous buns - with a focus on carefully-sourced Taiwanese ingredients. Located in the heart of London’s theatreland, XU is reminiscent of the Taiwanese social clubs and luxury dining rooms of the 1930s, offering a unique journey into Taiwanese culture and cuisine, from its food, cocktails and tea offerings through to its interiors. The restaurant is situated over two floors: ground floor tea rooms, Mahjong rooms and the first floor dining room. During the day the ground floor lends itself as a Taiwanese teahouse and by night experience a bustling Taiwanese brasserie.

Awesome atmosphere and the best chicken of my life. Definitely try the taro dumplings with sausage, they are magnificent!

Great service, nice deco, really impressive on how the food lay out throughout the dinning. Excellent food quality! Can’t wait for the next experience!

Nice room. Good but rather formal service. The waiter rattled off all the ingredients in each dish as he presented it, as if we were dining in a Michelin starred restaurant. Favourite dish was the char sui Iberico pork. Least favourite was the rather soupy crab. The dumplings were small and unremarkable. We felt it was overpriced.

We were early so were offered the Mahjong room instead of the main restaurant. Delightful and would prefer it anytime to the main drag which can be noisy. Just two tables, available if no one has booked to play Mahjong. We were just given 1.5 hrs which was fine due to great service. We both chose the 5 course set menu and it was dellghtful although by the end a little too 'chillified' for my taste, but so nice that I didn't want to leave anything. Gentle music which we had to ask to be turned off as my partner has a hearing problem and this was done, just for that room with no problem. Started with tine razor clams which I have never eaten before, delightful seasoning and would order again. Followed by a fried bun of some sort (cannot remember exactly what it was called, but no doubt the website will explain), delicious but I took one bite and all the gravy shot out the other end down my light grey top! Advice, use a knife and fork and not fingers. A tiny chicken leg followed, beautiful cooked, followed by boiled rice and a chicken dish again. The portions were large and we were quite full in the end, but did find some room to share some sesame ice cream which was delicious and tasted like halva of course. We would certainly go again and probably go 'off piste' as there seemed to be other delicious things to try.
