I returned to Dastaan after almost two years. It was good then, though I thought the chairs could be more comfortable and the decor improved. I am pleased to say on both counts they have got it right. The new chairs are very comfortable and I really like the modern decor. We were served very quickly on arrival so no hanging around waiting for a drink or poppadoms. The food was even better than the last time; absolutely delicious. There was plenty to eat so no one went hungry. Definitely one of the best curries I have ever had. One down side is the table by the door is very drafty, despite having a curtain against it. I had to swap seats with my friend as her arms were covered so she was happier to be in the draft. If that could be improved it would have been a faultless experience.

Had a great meal, lamb chops and prawn starter were excellent. Broccoli and several curry dishes later polished off with a selection of deserts to share.

The food at Dastaan has to be among the best Indian cuisine in the country. The stone bass is occasionally available on the menu and absolutely sensational. It's also a treat to try something new and listen to the excellent staff explain dishes with authority, knowledge and enthusiasm. I just love it.

I visited this restaurant last weekend for the last time. I had read a short review in the Times. Location and interior are as I expected. We ordered chicken tikka, prawn tikka and lamb chops to start. It was all nice but way too spicy. Too much chilly powder used so all I had in my mouth was a furnace. I ordered the butter chicken thinking this would be mild but it was no edible. The methi chicken and organ ghosh we v nice and less spicy. Indian food is all about layers of spicing but all I could taste was heat and nothing else in most of the dishes ordered. I would recommend this restaurant but would tell people the food is extremely spicy and not for the faint hearted.
