Présentation du restaurant
The quirky Mr P’s Curious Tavern offers a wide range of European specialities in a relaxed, informal and interesting setting. The location is an atmospheric (allegedly haunted) Grade II listed building, parts of which date back to the same era as The Shambles. Andrew Pern, AKA Mr P, Executive Chef/Director, is also the Chef/Owner of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome.
There’s something for everyone on Mr P’s menu which encourages you to pick and mix from a selection of sharing platters including Spanish, and charcuterie and cheese. Small plates of gin and beetroot cured salmon or king scallops and pork belly are other options. Mains include dishes like corn-fed chicken breast, ravioli of smoked potato and egg yolk or pan-fired halibut.
For pudding there’s tempting affogato or rhubarb posset. Liquid refreshment at Mr P’s restaurant offers small, medium and large vessels of wine, craft ales, spirits and other beverages.
On Thursday evenings, Mr P’s acts as a showcase for local troubadours, adding live music to the mix. Located in the heart of the city, Mr P’s Curious Tavern is a 13-minute walk from York Rail Station.

We visited during York restaurant week. The cauliflower soup was fabulous loved the cheese on toast served with it. The main course of belly pork was very tasty but the smallest main course I've seen! Looked more like a starter. Dessert wasn't what we expected, we ordered white chocolate parfait and raspberries but it was more like a soft chocolatey goo and a raspberry sorbet, tasted nice tho! In all, very tasty but ordinarily wouldn't have wanted to pay much more due to the portion size of the main course.

Brilliant food, great service and great location. Mr P’s Sunday lunch is a hidden gem! Why is it not packed?

Booked for birthday dinner but disappointing. Dry pork, oversauced chicken, very strange rubbery roast potatoes, Eton Mess that was just a meringue nest with cream and puree dumped on top. Much better food to be had at our local carvery. Not value for money.

Poor. experience. Kept waiting unnecessarily on arrival.Service was haphazard and extraordinarily slow. The sound of the resident pianist drowned out conversation. The place was cold. The beer was not up to scratch. As for the food - the mushroom soup had a layer of olive oil on top (tasted fine, though), our medium rare fillet steaks were medium, whilst the puddings were just poor. Can't be bothered going into detail. No point complaining because the waitress was rarely to be seen. I had avoided this place until now as its pretentious name put me off but I must say I expected better than this - especially for the outrageous prices charged.
